The Jacobite Prisoners of Tilbury Fort | Battle Of Culloden Prisoners Camp
So how does Tilbury Fort play a role in the Jacobite Rebellion? Well the connection is very dark and associated with the imprisonment, death and execution of many Jacobite prisoners. Today, a Culloden memorial stone can be found on the site, an actual stone brought to London from the bloody battlefield of Culloden, Culloden being the last stand of the Jacobite cause and the last battle ever fought on English soil. It was unveiled on the 16th July 1998 and reads In memory of the Scottish prisoners from the battle of Culloden in April 1746 who died either on the Thames prison ships or within Tilbury Fort. The history of the Jacobites is something that intrigues me a lot, as my 7th great grandfather James Gordon Esquire of Cobairdy, Aberdeenshire was a Jacobite himself and a close friend of Bonnie Prince Charlie. The young Prince Charlie even gifted James Gordon a gold/silver pocket watch chain. The item has since been returned to the Royal collection and on display at Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh. #tilburyfort #jacobite #culloden

Hi Stephen,
thank you for a really interesting video which you explain the story of the Jacobite Prisioners at Tilbury very clearly and informatively. I would like to recommend the video to the Clan Fraser group on Facebook Group I belong to, however they have highlighted that in the initial paragraph you write ‘the last pitch battle fought on English soil’ which have been questioned..
I know many members of Clan Fraser of Lovat group based all over the world will be very interested in your video but the term English soil may cause controversy as many Fraser’s still see it that Cullowas actually ‘Scottish soil’ that was taken by the English…hence the rebellion.
Any chance that bit can be edited to say Scottish soil so I can post a link to your video..?
