DNA & SKELETON of Bleadon Man | Meet Our Iron Age European Ancestor

Today we are at the Science Museum in London and we have come to film the next episode of our Bones and Skeletons videos – these are short films that showcase the many human remains on display in London, some of which are extremely interesting. The skeleton on display here at the Science Museum, London is known as Bleadon Man and he is about 2100 years old and lived during the iron age period of Britain. Bleadon is a small village in Somerset, England and this Skeleton you see before you was found in 1997/8 during an archaeological excavation The investigation revealed that “Bleadon Man” was probably a farmer 5 foot 6in tall and about 50 years old when he died over 2000 years. DNA testing on the bones confirmed that four people living in the surrounding area of Bleadon were related to this Iron Age man. And his DNA is shared with 1 in 4 europeans overall – So Bleadon man truly is one of our European ancestors.
