Ancient Roman Terracotta Small Vessel

Circa 1st-3rd Century AD

An Ancient Roman red terracotta vessel. The cup features a globular, smooth body with a slightly flared rim, and round, flat base. There is very faint dark pigmentation on the body.

Such cups were popular everyday items across the Roman Empire, used not only in households but also by the military. Vessels of this type could have been used in temples, with ceremonial and votive meanings.

Measurements: 4cm height, 3.5cm width

Private London collection, (A.D., 1980-2015).

Sold at auction by Ancient Art, The Gallery, London

Bought at auction in 2021, and now makes up part of the authors private collection.
